Today, 9 months ago I was about to give birth. Like any first time mom, I had some crazy ideas about what my life would look like 9 months on.

So here are some of the expectations I had 9 months into pregnancy vs the reality of 9 months post-partum.

9 months in

My baby is 9 months old! We’ll let everyone babysit and finally have some date nights, right?

9 months out

WRONG! Apart from the fact that we live nowhere near family, it’s not that easy leaving your baby. It wants it’s mom. ALL THE TIME! At the moment William is third wheeling on all our date nights, but at least he cleans up well.

I’ll have my pre-baby body back and I’ll be training again.

9 months out

I lost all the weight I put on during my pregnancy pretty fast, but my body’s nowhere near back to normal. I lost a lot of muscle mass and I wheeze just going up the stairs. I don’t get to the gym nearly as often as I would like to and my stomach muscles are still non-existent. But things are getting more settled so in 2020 I’m really going to focus on getting stronger.

My baby will be sleeping through the night.

9 months out

My baby is sleeping through the night!! We started sleep training at about 6 months and since then we’ve gone from strength to strength. We still have good nights and bad nights and even a few terrible nights but that’s perfectly normal. Waking up after 7am is also a thing of the past if you have a kid.

I’ll still be breastfeeding my baby when he’s nine months old

9 months out

Yep. Still breastfeeding this little nugget. We feed every 4 hours during the day (about 4 times during the day) and not at all during the night.

9 months in

I’ll be thinking of a second child by now

9 months out

Nope. On good days we discuss having a second child but on bad days we discuss William being an only child. We would love to someday have another baby but our life is unpredictable to say the least. For now, we’re soaking up every ounce of our first born and we’ll discuss a second baby in the future. Waaaayyy in the future.
